HIV Care Continuum Program Overview
Ramsell Pharmacy Solutions has announced the development of its own Medication Therapy Management service focused on HIV/AIDS, and is the "first-of-its-kind" service for this health care segment. Utilizing the Mirixa™ Pro platform, the RHCC service is administered to selected HIV patients by qualified pharmacists. The program provides a standardized process that incorporates the tools and pharmacist support needed for high-risk HIV patients to remain adherent to their medication regimen, thereby reducing the need for more expensive drugs, or expensive healthcare interventions, by the Plan Sponsor.
RHCC is offered in partnership with Mirixa Corporation, one of the leading MTM service providers in the market. The program will incorporate Mirixa's network of over 46,000 pharmacies. A high-level overview of the RHCC program is available in the Figure below.
The objective of the RHCC service is to proactively involve community pharmacists in patient medication therapy management. Using pharmacist interventions, the service promotes patient education of HIV/AIDS, awareness of the therapy goals, understanding of opportunistic infections, and the importance of medication adherence for successful health outcomes. The primary goal of Ramsell HIV Care Continuum is to enhance a patient's overall health status.
The RHCC service aids the Plan Sponsor by improving adherence to medication therapy, reducing incidences related to drug incompatibilities, and lessening the chances that poor adherence, or ill effects of the drugs, will lead to even more expensive healthcare options.
The relative benefits to the patients and to the Plan Sponsor are dependent upon the Plan Sponsor's current patient adherence rate, the costs of the medications of its patient population, the relative HIV disease status of its patient population, and the assumed breakout of the medication costs across patients and their adherence.
The direct benefit to Plan Sponsors using the RHCC Service is the decrease in medication costs as non-adherent patients are more likely to move to more expensive medication regimens. The indirect benefit to the City, County or State healthcare systems will be a decrease in doctor's visits, emergency room visits, and extended hospitalization.
The direct benefits to the patient are an increased knowledge of their disease, improved understanding of how to maintain their regimens, and a better quality of life, or even extended life expectancy. The indirect benefit of a healthier patient is improved employee productivity, and therefore, company productivity which will later translate into more taxable dollars from which public healthcare entities can be funded.
RHCC is a new HIV targeted MTM program that provides a means to improve or resolve drug interactions, adverse prescription effects, and prescription adherence to enhance patient healthcare while providing Sponsors with a cost-reduction opportunity.
